Pulmonary Vein Ablation
Pulmonary vein ablation, also known as pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) or catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF), is a highly specialized cardiac electrophysiology procedure performed at Moolchand Hospital, one of the best cardiac hospitals in Delhi. It offers patients with symptomatic atrial fibrillation the opportunity for long-term rhythm control, reduced AF burden, and improved quality of life, often with reduced or eliminated dependence on antiarrhythmic medications.
Atrial fibrillation is the most common cardiac arrhythmia, characterized by chaotic electrical signals originating predominantly from the pulmonary veins — the four veins that return oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atrium. Pulmonary vein ablation works by creating a ring of scar tissue around each pulmonary vein opening, electrically isolating them from the left atrium and eliminating the aberrant signals that trigger AF.
At Moolchand Hospital in Lajpat Nagar, pulmonary vein ablation is performed by experienced cardiac electrophysiologists in our state-of-the-art electrophysiology (EP) laboratory using advanced three-dimensional electroanatomical mapping systems (CARTO/EnSite). This technology creates a detailed three-dimensional map of the heart's electrical activity, guiding precise catheter positioning.
Two main energy sources are used: Radiofrequency (RF) ablation uses heat energy delivered through a contact force-sensing catheter to create precise lesions, while Cryoablation uses extreme cold delivered through a cryoballoon to achieve circumferential pulmonary vein isolation in a single freeze per vein. The choice between technologies depends on AF type, anatomy, and clinical factors.
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia or deep sedation, typically lasting 2 to 4 hours. Post-procedure, patients are monitored overnight and discharged within 24–48 hours with anticoagulation and follow-up rhythm monitoring. Success rates are highest for paroxysmal AF, with significant benefit also demonstrated for persistent AF with additional ablation strategies.
Our team of globally acclaimed super specialists has pioneered several pulmonary vein ablation surgeries.

Pulmonary vein ablation
Pulmonary vein ablation (pulmonary vein isolation) is an advanced catheter-based procedure for treating atrial fibrillation by electrically isolating the pulmonary veins — the primary triggers of AF — using radiofrequency energy or cryotherapy to restore and maintain normal heart rhythm.
Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) ablation
SVT ablation is a minimally invasive catheter-based electrophysiology procedure that permanently cures supraventricular tachycardia by identifying and destroying the abnormal electrical pathway or focus causing rapid heart rhythms, eliminating the need for long-term antiarrhythmic medications.
