About me

Dr. Anil Bhan is a highly accomplished Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon with more than three decades of experience, dedicated to advancing the science and practice of heart and vascular surgery through precision, innovation, and patient-first care. A Gold Medalist from Medical College, Srinagar, he has performed 15,000+ successful cardiac and vascular surgeries, including some of the most complex aortic and congenital heart procedures in India.

He is widely recognised for holding one of the largest experiences in aortic surgery in the country, and for shaping modern cardiothoracic surgical standards through both clinical leadership and innovation. Dr. Bhan has designed and developed 50+ cardiovascular surgical instruments now used internationally—helping improve surgical precision and outcomes across centres worldwide.

Dr. Bhan was part of the historic team that performed India’s first successful heart transplant in 1994. Over the years, he has also played a key role in establishing multiple major cardiac surgery programs across India. His clinical interests include complex aortic reconstruction, valve repair, congenital and paediatric cardiac surgery, advanced vascular and thoracic procedures, and endovascular/hybrid interventions, always guided by meticulous planning and patient safety.

Published one of the earliest reports on angiographic follow-up of OPCAB (Beating Heart CABG) from India. Accredited by Medtronics(U.S.).(Annals of Thoracic Surgery.-2000
Published third report in the world literature on Radial artery angiographic follow up. (Annals Thoracic Surgery.1999;67(6):1631–1636)
Published the data on adenosine preconditioning of the Myocardium in patients with ventricular dysfunction undergoing myocardial revascularisation.(Eur. J of Cardiothoracic Surgery. 2001
