Plaster Cutting
Plaster cutting is an essential orthopaedic procedure offered at Moolchand Hospital, one of the best orthopaedic hospitals in Delhi. It involves the careful removal of plaster of Paris (POP) or fiberglass casts that have been applied to immobilize fractured bones or post-surgical limbs during the healing process.
The procedure is performed using an oscillating cast saw — a specialized tool that vibrates rapidly rather than rotating, allowing it to cut through the hard cast material without damaging the delicate skin beneath. Despite its loud noise and vibrating sensation, the saw does not cut skin due to its oscillating mechanism, making the procedure safe even in anxious patients and children.
At Moolchand Hospital in Lajpat Nagar, our skilled orthopaedic technicians and nurses are trained in safe cast removal techniques. They carefully make two longitudinal cuts along the cast, spread it open, and remove the padding underneath before inspecting the healed limb. The skin and underlying tissues are assessed for any pressure sores, skin breakdown, or muscle atrophy that may have developed during the immobilization period.
Following cast removal, patients are guided by our physiotherapy team for rehabilitation exercises to restore joint mobility, muscle strength, and function. In some cases, a removable brace or splint may be prescribed to provide transitional support during the recovery phase.
As a trusted multi super speciality hospital in Delhi, Moolchand Hospital provides comprehensive orthopaedic care — from fracture management and cast application to safe removal and post-cast rehabilitation — ensuring a smooth, complete recovery for every patient.
Our team of globally acclaimed super specialists has pioneered several plaster cutting surgeries.
