Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)
Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is a specialised cardiac imaging procedure used to obtain high-resolution images of the heart and its structures. Unlike a standard echocardiogram performed on the chest wall, TEE involves passing a flexible ultrasound probe through the esophagus, which lies close to the heart, allowing clearer and more detailed visualization.
TEE is particularly useful in evaluating heart valve disorders, detecting blood clots (especially in the left atrium), assessing infections such as endocarditis, identifying congenital heart defects, and guiding complex cardiac procedures.
The procedure is typically performed under local throat anaesthesia with mild sedation to ensure patient comfort. It usually takes 15–30 minutes and is considered safe, with minimal discomfort. Patients are monitored throughout the procedure, and recovery is quick.
At Moolchand Hospital, TEE is performed using advanced imaging technology by experienced cardiologists, ensuring accurate diagnosis and better treatment planning.
Our team of globally acclaimed super specialists has pioneered several transesophageal echocardiography (tee) surgeries.
