Operative Laparoscopy
Operative laparoscopy is a transformative approach to abdominal and pelvic surgery performed comprehensively at Moolchand Hospital, one of the best laparoscopic surgery hospitals in Delhi. It combines diagnostic visualization of the abdominal and pelvic contents with simultaneous therapeutic surgical intervention — all performed through small (5–12mm) incisions (ports) in the abdominal wall through which a high-definition laparoscope and specialized surgical instruments are introduced.
The laparoscope — a rigid telescope with an integrated camera and light source — provides magnified, high-definition visualization of the operating field on a monitor. Carbon dioxide gas inflates the abdominal cavity (pneumoperitoneum) to create the working space needed for surgical manoeuvring. Advanced energy devices (LigaSure, harmonic scalpel, bipolar forceps), needle drivers for suturing, graspers, scissors, clip appliers, and morcellators are passed through additional small ports to perform the surgical procedure.
In gynaecology, operative laparoscopy encompasses a vast range of procedures including laparoscopic hysterectomy, myomectomy, ovarian cystectomy, oophorectomy, salpingectomy (fallopian tube removal for ectopic pregnancy or sterilization), treatment of endometriosis (laser ablation or excision), adhesiolysis, tubal surgery for infertility, and pelvic floor reconstruction. These procedures form the backbone of modern minimally invasive gynaecological surgery at Moolchand Hospital.
In general surgery, operative laparoscopy covers cholecystectomy, appendicectomy, hernia repair (inguinal, umbilical, incisional), anti-reflux surgery (fundoplication), bariatric surgery (sleeve gastrectomy, bypass), bowel resection, splenectomy, adrenalectomy, and increasingly — complex oncological resections. Urological operative laparoscopy includes nephrectomy, pyeloplasty, prostatectomy, and bladder surgery.
The clinical advantages of operative laparoscopy over open surgery are well-established and consistently demonstrated in clinical trials and real-world practice — including significantly reduced post-operative pain, substantially shorter hospital stay, faster return to normal activities and work, reduced wound complications (infection, herniation), less adhesion formation, superior cosmetic results, and equivalent or better long-term outcomes for most procedures.
At Moolchand Hospital in Lajpat Nagar Delhi, our expert laparoscopic surgeons across gynaecology, general surgery, and urology offer the full spectrum of operative laparoscopy, supported by modern laparoscopic tower systems, 4K high-definition visualization, and advanced energy devices — providing patients with the safest, most effective, and least invasive surgical care available.
