Prof. (Dr.) Surya Bhan is one of India’s most distinguished Orthopaedic surgeons and a globally respected pioneer in knee and hip replacement surgery, with more than five decades of surgical, academic, and clinical excellence. Internationally recognised for mastery in joint replacement, he has performed 20,000+ knee and hip replacement procedures, helping patients regain mobility and transform their quality of life across India and abroad.

He previously served at AIIMS, New Delhi, as Head of Orthopaedics, Chief of Emergency Services, and Chief of Trauma Centre, where he played a pivotal role in shaping modern orthopaedic and trauma care in the country. A visionary innovator, Prof. (Dr.) Bhan established India’s first Fresh Frozen Bone Bank at AIIMS, enabling advanced reconstructions, complex revision joint replacements, and limb salvage surgeries with improved outcomes. He later replicated similar bone bank systems at other centres of excellence.
