About me

I was conferred the prestigious Padma Bhushan & Padma Shri by The Govt. of India for my exemplary contribution in the field of nephrology and transplantation in India. I am a pioneer of Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD), artificial kidney program and kidney transplantation in North India.

I am passionately committed to look after all kidney patients with empathy and total commitment. It has kept me going for 50+ years. I have to my credit 2,500+ kidney transplants till date and have helped set up high-volume nephrology and kidney transplantation departments at several major hospitals in North India.

I have been extensively trained in nephrology and renal transplant sciences from across the globe. This helped me establish training programs for medical, technical and nursing students in nephrology. I am an avid teacher and mentor MD, DM and DNB program students and an examiner for various PhD, MCh, MD, DM, DNB and MBBS courses.

I was passionate about kidney transplantation in India. My relentless crusade of 20 years for the Artificial Organ Transplant promulgated as an Act in May 1994.

I am proud to be the first ever Indian Member of Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in kidney diseases and hold the distinction of starting haemodialysis and kidney transplantation in Northern India. I have had the privilege to treat many Indian and foreign political and business delegates.
